”We are storytelling creatures…” and we tell them in numerous ways and manners. I prefer writing and drawing, especially enjoying the twilight land between the two. For it contains invisible bridges, which turn visible by stepping on them.

The first steps are light, curious and exciting. These are sketches and ideas. Then comes the more laborious part: drawing a lot, finding a style to match the content of the text. At some point, the big picture gets murky, almost meaningless and it doesn’t really make sense. Yet the drawings and corrections continue, for an utterly imperfect but finished work is far better than an abandoned if almost beautiful one.

By the end, there is mostly exhaustion and a piece of creative work that has a rather faint resemblance to the original idea - but there it is nevertheless. Casting it away would have left me without an adventure- an adventure worth taking.

Illustrations for the picture books by Lyanne Coral, Lilly’s Adventure and Lilly's Friend

Lilly’s Adventure is the first tale about Lilly the foxlet who wakes up one morning to see her reflection missing in her magic pond. The reflections in the pond are connected to the dreams of children and animals. If she does not do something they will all lose their dreams. So she sets out to get them back by climbing up a Tree of Chance and Change in the Forrest of Foes arriving to the False Moon.

False Moon is a dream-eater, who offers a pact to Lilly. She should sacrifice some of her dreams and a bit of her freedom to get back her own and everyone else’s dreams. Faced with this dilemma she decides to find her way out of this tricky situation using her wit. Lilly’s Adventure conveys a plot of adventure while grasping a symbolic layer, making it a light and enjoyable read with a deep message.

Lilly’s Friend is the second tale of Lilly the foxlet. In this tale, she meets a new friend White Tail with whom they are perfect soul-roaming friends but a piece of WhiteTail’s heart has been stolen by the Dark Mate so he may not remain with Lilly. Yet Lilly is a magic foxlet who does not give up easily… In this book we get a vivid picture of a friendship, it’s hazards and a way of retaining hope.
